Småland – the kingdom of crystal

Between the years of 1850-1930, many people left the poverty of Småland for the dream of the promised land in America. Nowadays it’s quite the opposite – hordes of tourists visit this beautiful region every year. Visit the world renowned Orrefors factory, watch the art of hand made glass-blowing, and even try it yourself. For dinner we serve the famous “hyttsill” – salted herring fried in the cooling pipe (the same pipe earlier used to cool down the glassware).

Other activities special for Småland are baking “knäckebröd” (Swedish hard bread) and “polkagrisar” (the original red and white striped candy bar). The large population of moose and wild boar in the area, sets the scene for an exiting safari into the deep forests.

We also visit the island of Visingsö – the pearl of the Vättern lake. Here the many burial sites and folk tales relate the time when Visingsö was the island of myths and kings.
